Our BibRave Pros are a team of awesome run bloggers who run the best races and test the latest products. We asked each of our Pros to answer a few questions about themselves, their running history, and their favorite gear! If you have any comments or additional questions, let them know below!
Name: Randy Birnschein
Where I live… Lynchburg, VA.
I’ve been a BibRave Pro for… one year!
My running shoes are… numerous 😀 Sauconys and Altras are my favorites.
My favorite race distance is… Half Marathon.
My running goals for 2018 are… to Boston Qualify.
My favorite races are… VA 10 miler, Richmond Marathon, and the Krispy Kreme Challenge.
My playlist includes… Hip hop on race day and easier stuff on long runs.
My pre-race routine is… I like to stay relaxed and loose. I find some running buddies and chat it up with them. I try not to think too much about my goal. We usually go on a little warmup of a quarter to half mile. I’ll get some hype music going, too. Being tense takes energy, and we’re gonna need that energy!
My race day gear checklist includes… lots of things, but always shoes and a bib!
Why I like being a BibRave Pro… connecting with the Running community and trying and reviewing gear!
My favorite episode of The BibRave Podcast is… either #96 with Matt Fitzgerald or #79 Drunk on the Run. Matt Fitzgerald’s book “How Bad Do You Want It?” is a must read! I don’t read a ton of books, but that book goes deep into the psychology of endurance sports, including some of the obstacles and how we can beat them. It blew my mind. Drinking can be counter-productive to running (obviously haha), and the older I get the tougher it can be. I’ll take any information and advice that I can get.
Post-race I always… first, I find friends or family to share the joy with or to comfort me. After that, I find some chocolate milk and whatever I can eat. Then, it’s beer. Beer is good for drowning the sorrow of a race gone bad or to celebrate a PR. I usually bring clothes to change into and some Oofos.
