‘Tis the Season to Be Healthy with Luvo!

They don’t call it the silly season for nothing. Add in your training or race miles and you’re in for one hectic end of the year. When things get busy it’s so easy to slip into the routine of eating what’s convenient rather than what’s healthy.

Our BibRave Pros have become big fans of Luvo, a whole new approach to frozen meals that focuses on healthy ingredients while making sure that the food tastes like food, rather than the cardboard frozen stuff you’ve probably tried in the past.

In fact, the Luvo difference begins with the packaging, as BibRave Pro Emily found out while testing the product – “One of the cool things about Luvo (there are several!) is the way it cooks.  It’s not sitting in a plastic tray that may or may not have BPA in it.  It comes in a paper pouch that steams. It cooks a little longer than a traditional entrée (7 minutes or so), but gets thoroughly cooked so you don’t have cold spots.”

Mai happened to get sick while preparing for the Chicago Marathon. She found that Luvo meals were a blessing because she was able to just “pop one into the microwave and within minutes I had a healthy meal that was piping hot, smelled delicious, and tasted great.” Her favorite meal, Orange Mango Chicken, is described as “regular orange chicken, but healthier because it’s not deep fried. I really didn’t think I could like orange chicken that wasn’t deep fried, but I was wrong.”
If you’re into comfort food, Luvo has you covered, as Meridith discovered while running around with the kids and looking to treat herself to the Luvo meals. She describes her fave, the Roasted Cauliflower Mac and Cheese bowl, as “cauliflower with brown rice noodles and panko style topping in a creamy sauce”, and she found that the “food was flavorful and the texture was how it should be.”

If you’re a vegan or vegetarian and haven’t been inspired by the frozen choices that are offered, Luvo has your back!

Amidst peak training for a 100-Miler, Nicole tested the Luvo meals and found herself “bringing them to work for lunches. They are portable and easy to prepare and better than convenience food options.” Her favorite meal was the Hawaiian Un-Fried Rice – which is a completely vegan dish with rice, shiitake mushrooms, pineapple, cashews, and “packed full of flavor!”

BibRave Pro Samantha chose to try and eat only vegan meals in an effort to increase her veggie intake during her Chicago Marathon training and to “help expand [her] taste and knowledge of vegan dishes”. Her favorite? The Great Karma Coconut Curry! She “was hesitant at first since. I didn’t know how the coconut would taste, but the seasoning and sauce for the bowl was amazing.” In fact, Samantha enjoyed her 10-meal vegan journey and “plans on incorporating these meals so [she] can eat more veggies.”

Luvo creates each meal with a quality protein, such as antibiotic-free meat and poultry, or they sub in plant proteins for all the veggies and vegans out there (nope, Luvo hasn’t forgotten about you!). They also add in whole grains and have a full serving of fruits and vegetables so you know you’re getting the nutrition you need to log those miles!

This is a big part of Luvo’s “3-2-None” policy which provides:

  • 3 – the right amount of protein, grains, and veggies as I’ve mentioned above,
  • 2 – not too much added sugar or sodium,
  • None – NO artificial colors, flavors, and sweeteners.

So, if you’re looking for something quick to grab as you’re walking in the door, stock up on the Luvo healthy frozen meals, they’ll ensure that your nutrition stays on track!
